My name is
Mary Monaghan Sypawka
My husband and I live with our dog and cat in the village of Harleysville, 25 miles northwest of Philadelphia. I have had relapsing multiple sclerosis for 28 years. I self-published a book a few years ago called In My Shoes – A Journey to Living Well with Multiple Sclerosis.
At the time of my diagnosis, I learned that all of my seemingly–unrelated health issues were actually a chronic illness called multiple sclerosis. I was a soon-to-be-married, workaholic career person who thought that nothing could slow me down. Steve and I were married soon thereafter and I continued to work and live my life in spite of MS. Fast forward ten plus years and it became necessary for me to exit the corporate world due to my illness.
After my way-too-early retirement, I learned that a healthy lifestyle and my acknowledgment that MS was going to challenge me in unimaginable ways was the key to living my best life.
In the summer months, I like to spend time in my backyard oasis. In winter I like to sip a cup of Earl Gray while watching the latest Netflix shows. I am married to a wonderful man who provides unwavering support through the many ups and downs of living with MS.
